In the backdrop of the Jubilee Hills by-election, the Punjagutta police today unjustly arrested senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Papa Rao and Ananth Krishna, confiscated their mobile phones and mentally harassed them, BJP State General Secretary Dr. N Gautam Rao strongly condemned such actions. He said that such actions are against democracy and the judiciary. He said that even though the election code of conduct was in force during the Jubilee Hills by-election, it was unfortunate that the police did not pay any attention to the serious violations of the rules such as distributing money on the roads to influence voters and tempting them. On the other hand, he criticized the abuse of power by targeting and arresting only the opposition BJP leaders. He strongly condemned these illegal arrests and demanded the immediate release of Papa Rao and Ananth Krishna. He said that the police’s inhumane behavior under pressure from the Congress party is an attack on democracy. He warned that the police should immediately make corrections to protect democratic values.
