National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, featuring the presentation of the Major Dhyan Chand Excellence Awards–2026 to professors and physical directors.
To mark National Sports Day and commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Olympic hockey player and Padma Bhushan awardee Major Dhyan Chand, a special event was organized at the Press Club in Bashirbagh under the aegis of the Telangana Intellectuals Forum (State Chapter).Professor V. Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education, attended the event as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Balakista Reddy urged young athletes and physical directors to strive towards making Telangana a leading state in the field of sports.He stated that the Telangana State Council of Higher Education and the state government would provide the necessary support and cooperation for the development of sports.Former High Court Judge Justice B. Chandra Kumar remarked that engaging in sports enables individuals to overcome mental stress and lead healthy, happy lives.On this occasion, the Major Dhyan Chand Excellence Awards–2026 were presented to Professor B. Suresh Kumar, Dr. K. Anitha, Dr. C. Sandeep Reddy, Dr. Battu Venkanna, Dr. B.R. Netha, Dr. Punjala Supriya, Dr. A. Siddhartha, Dr. R. Murali, Major D. Jayasudha, Major K.A. Shiva Prasad, and Potel Srinivas Yadav.Sadhu Madhusudan (State President, Telangana Recognized Schools Managements Association), Tarun Kumar Mehta (President, Twin Cities Sri Gujarati Brahma Samaj), Dr. Raj Narayan Mudiraj (State President, Telangana Intellectuals Forum), Dr. Mohammad Akhtar Ali (Secretary), Dr. Raviteja (Chief Coordinator), and organizational coordinators Sri Venugopal, K. Ravinder, and Surya, along with several others, participated in the event and addressed the gathering.
