Ms. Vandana Paul Burder, Programme Lead, ActionAid Karnataka Projects (AKP); Mr. Bari from the Labour Department; Ms. Naddunuri Bhargavi, a Field Coordinator at National Workers Welfare Trust; and Mr. Sumkum Raju, PLV, were present at the Orientation-cum-Capacity Building Programme on the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act, welfare schemes, and claims, conducted by ActionAid Karnataka Projects (AKP) in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at the RDO Office, Paradise, Hyderabad, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Vandana Paul Burder delivered a detailed introduction to the programme, stating that labourers are the foundation stones of the nation and that their immense contribution to the country’s GDP and development is invaluable. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that construction workers are aware of their rights and are able to access social security benefits provided under the BOCW Act.
Mr. Bari from the Labour Department and Ms. Naddunuri Bhargavi, a Field Coordinator at National Workers Welfare Trust, provided a comprehensive explanation on who qualifies as a labourer under the Act, the process of applying for Labour Cards, the documents required for registration, and the procedure for submitting various welfare claims. They clarified several doubts raised by the participants regarding eligibility, documentation, renewal, and claim processes.The session was interactive, with attendees actively engaging and seeking clarifications, all of which were addressed in detail by the resource persons.
Mr. Sumkum Raju, Para Legal Volunteer (PLV), efficiently coordinated the entire programme, ensuring its smooth conduct and active participation.
The Mazdoor Pathshala initiative marked a significant step toward strengthening awareness about labour rights and facilitating access to welfare schemes for construction workers in Hyderabad.
