“Let’s build a healthy society”
District Principal Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), G. Rajagopal, stated that the path of compromise is the “royal path” (Rajamargam) and urged litigants to seek speedy justice by settling compoundable cases. On Saturday, the Principal Judge inaugurated and conducted the National Lok Adalat at the Nyaya Seva Sadan located within the District Court premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Principal Judge highlighted that in a Lok Adalat settlement, both parties emerge as winners. He noted that a Lok Adalat verdict carries the same weight as a final judgment from the Supreme Court. He encouraged litigants to utilize Lok Adalats to resolve their cases quickly and peacefully. He further mentioned that these sessions are instrumental in ending long-standing disputes without any legal fees, with the full cooperation of the Legal Services Authority.
The Judge emphasized that there is no provision for appeal once a case is settled through compromise. He pointed out that frequenting courts wastes both time and money, whereas resolving cases brings mental peace. “Let us build a healthy society through the speedy disposal of cases,” he said. Specifically regarding matrimonial disputes, he stated that if couples reunite, it ensures the happiness of their children and families, leading to a healthier society.
He shared that in the previous Lok Adalat, Khammam district secured the 6th position in Telangana by resolving 8,490 cases. Among those, 63 motor vehicle accident cases were settled, providing compensation worth ₹4,28,98,000. He expressed his desire for the district to achieve an even better rank in the current session and called upon all stakeholders to work tirelessly toward this goal.
The Principal Judge advised litigants to come forward for settlements in various categories, including criminal compoundable cases, civil disputes, property partitions, matrimonial issues, bank recoveries, electricity theft, cheque bounce cases, road accidents, drunk and drive cases, and petty cases.
He added that resolving cases through Lok Adalat fosters a friendly atmosphere among litigants and maintains peace in villages. “In Lok Adalat, there is no winner or loser; both parties are victors,” he remarked.
Participating in the program, District Bar Association President Tondapu Venkateswara Rao said that instead of clinging to egos, parties should realize that Lok Adalat offers a win-win situation for both. He urged people to let go of hatred, grudge, and revenge, and instead cultivate a peaceful mind and a forgiving nature.
During the event, the District Principal Judge settled a motor vehicle accident claim with an insurance company and resolved a family dispute. He handed over the compensation awards along with flower saplings to the parties involved.
The program was attended by First Additional District Judge Umadevi, Senior Civil Judge and In-charge Secretary of Nyaya Seva Sadan Kalpana, Telangana Bar Council Member Srinivas Rao, various judges, judicial officers, members of the Legal Services Authority, mediators, advocates, and litigants.
