Khammam: Speaking at a press conference organized at Yashoda Medical Center, Dr. Parinitha Reddy Gutta (Clinical Director & HOD, Pediatric Oncology & Hematology, Yashoda Hospitals Somajiguda)—who brings over 20 years of experience in treating pediatric cancer—emphasized that parents need clear awareness regarding childhood cancer and its treatment options.

Dr. Parinitha noted that childhood cancer is not entirely rare, making awareness vital. Cure rates for pediatric cancer are quite high, with nearly an 80% success rate when treated properly. It can occur at any stage from birth up to 18 years of age.

She highlighted that treatment approaches for childhood cancers differ significantly from adult protocols. Depending on the condition, therapies may include:

* Surgery

* Chemotherapy

* Radiation therapy

* Targeted therapy

* Immunotherapy

* Stem cell transplantation (Bone Marrow Transplant)

To ensure optimal outcomes, treatment should always be conducted under the supervision of a qualified pediatric oncologist.

Key Symptoms to Watch For:

Parents should consult a doctor immediately if a child displays persistent or unexplained symptoms, such as:

* Continuous fever

* Unexplained bleeding

* Joint pain

* Anemia

* Lumps or swelling

* Persistent vomiting

* Newly developed squinting

* Severe nighttime headaches

Dr. Parinitha mentioned that this awareness program was held in observance of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The event was attended by Yashoda Hospitals Somajiguda Deputy General Manager Anish Kumar Tiwari, along with Managers Mr. Bala Krishna and Mr. Sai Ram.
