Former Corporator Thota Rama Rao inspected Ganesh Nagar, Mekala Narayana Nagar, and Auto Nagar in Division 48 under the Khammam Municipal Corporation following public complaints about severe sanitation issues, expressing strong anger towards the authorities.
He noted that despite multiple requests to increase sanitation personnel in this widespread division, there has been no proper response. The few existing workers are unable to manage the workload, leaving conditions stagnant. Heavy rainfall has led to massive garbage piles, rising mosquito populations, and venomous snakes invading homes, causing terror among residents. He criticized the corporation, stating that if his repeated complaints as a public representative are ignored, common citizens stand no chance of being heard.
Addressing the drainage works executed last month in Ganesh Nagar, Rama Rao pointed out a complete lack of oversight regarding the contractors. Blockades placed during construction were left unremoved. Requests sent to contractors and demands for a JCB machine to clear the debris were turned down by officials. Recognizing the public’s distress, he used his own personal funds to deploy machinery and clear the drainage blockages.
Warning that a lack of official oversight would draw public wrath, Thota Rama Rao urged Khammam Municipal Corporation officials to conduct a thorough inquiry into Division 48. He demanded an immediate increase in sanitation staff, strict action against negligent contractors, effective use of mosquito fogging machines, and urgent measures to protect residents from seasonal diseases during the rainy season.
