ActionAid Karnataka Projects, in collaboration with the District Administration, Bhongir, organized an Interface-cum-Solidarity Meeting on the Effective Implementation of the POSH Act 2013 at A R Gardens, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District. The programme aimed at strengthening mechanisms for harassment-free workplaces, with a special focus on women in the unorganized sector, as part of ActionAid’s national campaign to reach 100 million people across 100 districts in 100 days.
The meeting saw participation from key government departments including Women Development & Child Welfare, Health, Labour, District Legal Services Authority, civil society groups, and community representatives.
Honorable District Collector M. Hanumant Rao Garu addressed the gathering, stressing the collective responsibility of institutions and individuals to ensure women’s safety and dignity at workplaces. He also led an oath-taking ceremony pledging commitment to harassment-free, inclusive workspaces.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. M. Manohar (DM&HO), Narasimha Rao (District Welfare Officer, WCWD), Dr. Yashoda (Dy. DM&HO), Dr. Veena (Nodal Officer, Asha Programme), Dr. Pramila (Chairperson, LCC), Mr. Janardhan (Founder, PILUPU NGO), Smt. Shailaja and Smt. Jhoshna (CDPOs, WCWD), and Smt. Vandana (Programme Lead, ActionAid Karnataka Projects & LCC External Member).
The speakers highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns, effective reporting mechanisms, and the role of Local Committees in addressing harassment cases. Dr. Pramila Garu, Chairperson of the Local Complaints Committee, emphasized that the POSH campaign must go beyond a one-day event and become a sustained national movement involving all stakeholders.
As a mark of solidarity, members of Internal Committees from various government departments were also invited.
